Lesson 3

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

Creativity

The creative person is one who generates new ideas. The creative process is how these new ideas, solutions, and inventions are produced.

Creativity is the process of generating something new that has value.

Creativity involves the translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision into an external reality that is new and useful takes place unavoidably inside our own personal, social, and cultural boundaries.

Creativity can be identified based on particular, specifiable features of products or persons thought or thought process. Unfortunately adhering to these understanding……

Innovation by definition is to bring in new ideas or make changes. Innovation is the act of introducing something new.

Creativity and Innovation are often used interchangeably but they are very different parts of the same process. Creativity is the process of coming up with ideas, and it can best be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst Innovation is idea selection, development and commercialization. In other words, innovation is the process of turning ideas into practical reality.

Nothing is more important than human thinking or thinking creatively. Thinking can be taught across all cultures, ages and abilities. It is not a matter of intelligence or of knowledge.” "Creativity isn't magic. It's achievable!"

 Defining novelty

Novelty is the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension (e.g. a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism) it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals.

Subjective novelty is the perception of something as being new by an individual person or a group of persons.

Originality is not a decisive feature of creative work. Novelty in creativity is always based on what has been created before. Moreover, perception of what is new is context dependent novelty is recognized in contrast with what is considered old; the same thing can be perceived as either new or old. The old can become the new again if it is preceded by something different; hence the phenomenon of recurrence.

Defining Innovation

Innovation is the process of making improvements by introducing something new, the realization of a creative idea in a social context. Innovation is a process by which an idea or invention is translated into a good or service for which people will pay. To be called an innovation, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. Inventors those who take existing knowledge and create new ideas.

 Inventors;

Those who take existing knowledge and create new ideas

There are four types of creativity. Creative people fall into these four categories:

1.     Aesthetic Organizers.

2.     Boundary Pushers — those who take an existing idea and push it a little further.

3.     Inventors — those who take existing knowledge and create new ideas — the Edison's of this world.

4.     The rarest group: Boundary Breakers — the Leonardo's and the Copernicus's.

Kitchen On A Table And The Wall

Constrains like limited space and behavioral changes like cooking while entertaining have dictated the transition from monstrous-sized kitchens to neat compact kitchenettes and open modular concepts. Adopting these changes, Electrolux brings to us to two unique concepts. The Rendez-vous interactive table is a cook-top that allows you to do jiffy cooking and entertain at the same time. The Volare, akin to the Lounge Bar, is a wall mounted appliance that’s nothing short of an artistic kitchen! Check out the details after the jump.

You’re the sort who likes to interact with family and friends while cooking; then the Rendez-vous is just for you. It’s an intuitive table that features a unique energy shield that brings the appliances to life without having to plug them in. For instance, by simply placing the blender on the surface you can work it or charge it. Needless to say inductive and sensor technologies support the random cooking zones. Modular drawers that can hold stoves or refrigerator are accommodated beneath the table and can be tucked away, when you need to use the table for dining. A virtual chef that guides you through your cooking completes this futuristic package
